Kentucky Christian Edges Past Golden Tigers 76-71

Gainesville, Georgia- Kentucky Christian University used a big second quarter to edge past the Brenau basketball team 76-71 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

In the opening quarter, the visitors came out with an early 8-2 advantage, however, the Golden Tigers answered with a 7-0 run to take a 9-8 lead. Both teams battled throughout the quarter until junior Hanna Grogan hit a three-pointer at the end of the period to give Brenau a 15-13 advantage.

The second quarter was close until the 3:46 mark when the Crusaders closed on an 11-4 run to take a 38-30 lead into halftime.

After halftime, Brenau chipped away at the lead until a driving layup by Tamia Francis tied the game at 48-48 with 1:45 remaining in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, both teams battled throughout the period until a Francis layup made the score 73-71 with :45 seconds remaining. However, the Crusaders hit four consecutive free throws down the stretch to escape with the victory.

Francis led Brenau with a career-high 18 points and Dyiesha Brown added 11 points. Katherine Fourie, Hanna Grogan and Tyleia Williams each added 10 points.

Savannah Anderson led all scorers with 24 points.

Brenau (10-15 overall, 7-14 AAC) next hosts Columbia International University (4-19 overall, 3-18 AAC) on Monday at 5:30 in Gainesville.
