
Comeback Falls Short as Golden Tigers Fall to KYC
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball pushed Kentucky Christian but fell late in an 84-71 loss in Appalachian Athletic Conference competition on Wednesday.
After falling behind 22-13 in the first quarter, the Golden Tigers responded with a 19-17 second quarter. Junior Katherine Fourie scored eight points in the period, while sophomore Nyla Moore added six points in the quarter to cut the deficit to 39-32.
In the third quarter, both teams battled to an 18-18 draw as senior post Xian Lopez scored eight points and Fourie continued to shoot well with six points.
In the final stanza, the Golden Tigers cut the Knights' lead to 65-61 as senior Shaniya Gause hit a three pointer from the wing. Kentucky Christian answered with a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 70-61 with 5:01 remaining. Brenau freshman Jill Pittman hit a three pointer on the ensuing possession to cut into the Knights' lead, however, the visitors closed the game on a 14-10 run to hold off the Brenau comeback.
Fourie led Brenau with 16 points, while Gause added a career-high 14 points. Lopez and Moore also added 11 points each.
Kentucky Christian's Jenna Blakely led all scorers with 26 points.
Brenau (4-11 overall, 3-11 AAC) next hosts Union (KY) College (12-8 overall, 7-8 AAC) in an AAC matchup on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
