
Swimming In Fourth Place after Day Two of 2017 National Championships
On day three of the 2017 NAIA Swimming and Diving Championships, the Brenau swim team added four more top-ten finishes to hold fourth place going into the final day of competition.
In the first finals of the afternoon, the 200 medley relay team of Lindsay Dowling, Yanne Toussaint, Alisha Hodgetts and Ella Kleinschmidt raced to a sixth place finish in 1:48.41.
Hodgetts also continued her strong finals with a ninth place finish in the 100 butterfly in 57:69, while Dowling notched her first individual top-five performance in the championships with a fifth place finish in the 100 backstroke in 57.74.
Courtney Hayward earned her second top-five finish of the finals with a fifth place finish in the 400 IM in 4:31.95. The Townsville, Australia native was narrowly outpaced by Olivet Nazarere's Haley Ronci by a scant .05 seconds for fourth place.
Also, freshman Yanne Toussaint and junior Ella Kleinschmidt placed 13th (1:56.84) and 14th (1:57.42) respectively in the 200 freestyle.
The Golden Tigers amassed 203 total points through Friday's competitions. Olivet Nazarene held the top spot with 458 points while defending champions SCAD-Savannah sat second with 434 points and Biola University finished in third with 257 points.
The championships will close out with six women's preliminary races on Saturday morning, with the finals set for the afternoon.
