
Swimming Competes Against UNC-Asheville
Asheville, North Carolina- The Brenau swim team competed against NCAA Division I UNC-Asheville in a dual meet on Saturday.
Although the Golden Tigers came up short, the squad had some outstanding performances and gained significant experience against a strong opponent in both regular and exhibition matches.
In the relays, the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Bayley Blackmon, Harmina te Velthuis, Yanne Toussaint and Fani Antoniadou posted a blistering time of 1:41.70 to capture first place. The squad's time was the third fastest recorded time in the NAIA this season.
Also, the 200 Medley Relay team of te Velthuis, Toussaint, Antoniadou and Nikoletta Alvanou placed fourth in the meet in 1:56.71 and improved on their time by over 7.4 seconds.
Individually, Toussaint led the Golden Tigers with a first place finish in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:12.18. The senior out touched UNC Asheville's Ellis Nelson by 0.51 seconds to capture top honors. She also garnered a second place finish in the 200 Breaststroke in 2:35.76.
Additionally, Antoniadou captured second place honors in both the 50 Freestyle (24:94) and the 100 Butterfly (1:01.97) and had a fourth place finish in the 200 Freestyle in 2:01.95.
te Velthuis also notched a second place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:20.35 and a pair of third place finishes in the 200 Freestyle (1:59.89) and the 50 Freestyle (25:46). Alvanou also had a solid meet with another second place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.21, a third place finish in the 200 Breaststroke (2:41.86) and a fourth place nod in the 200 Butterfly (2:27.11).
