
New Era Skyhawks surges for their First Win
WEST POINT, Ga (Oct. 30, 2024) - The Point University Women's Basketball Team opened up the season at home in a non-conference matchup against Brenau University, where the Skyhawks won 67-50.
The Skyhawks opened the first quarter with a defensive master class, a steal from Antonia Pittman, and multiple blocks by Zaria Johnson. Opening the scoring column, Shakira Wilson converted a jump shot. The Golden Tigers also responded with a layup, jumping into the scoring column. As the first half continued, both teams traded baskets, ensuing constant lead changes. The Skyhawks had a momentary takeover, going on an 8-0 run. The Golden Tigers strived to stay in the fight by converting a three-pointer as they attempted to cut down the lead. The Skyhawks kept the pressure on converting a few more shots, ending the first half 31-23.
The Golden Tigers started the second half with a three-pointer. The Skyhawks jumped back on a 12-2 run, starting with two conversions from Zaria Johnson's charity stripe. The Skyhawks continued blazing the net for the entire second half, ending the game 67-50.

Zaria Johnson led with 21 points, 16 rebounds, and seven blocks. Shakira Wilson added 14 points, and Antonia Pittman added 10 points.
