
Softball Takes Two from TWU
Athens, Tennessee- The Brenau softball team swept Tennessee Wesleyan 2-1 and 8-0 in five innings to earn a critical Appalachian Athletic Conference sweep on Tuesday.
In game one, starter Alyssa Bedenbaugh threw a complete game while allowing only one run, and RBIs by juniors Hannah Patridge and Abigail Brown allowed the Golden Tigers to squeak past the host Bulldogs 2-1.
Freshman Riley Smith added two hits and senior Morgan Tyler added a stolen base in the win.
Bedenbaugh earned her seventh win of the season and lowered her ERA to a team-best 2.43.
In the second game, the Brenau offense pounded out 11 hits and starting pitcher Sarah Shaw threw five shutout innings en route to an 8-0 win in five innings.
Patridge again slugged two RBIs, while sophomore Taryn Hitchcock added three RBIs of her own in the victory.
Shaw notched her team-high twelfth win of the season in the shutout.
Brenau (20-8 overall, 16-4 AAC) next takes on Kentucky Christian (22-16 overall, 13-5 AAC) in a Wednesday AAC doubleheader starting at 3 pm at Ernest Ledford Grindle Park in Gainesville.
