Softball Slugs Past St. Andrews in AAC Doubleheader

Laurinburg, North Carolina-  Junior Whitney Hulsey launched her first home run of the season and the Brenau offense exploded for twenty-four runs in a sweep of St. Andrews (NC) in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play on Wednesday.

In the opening game, Hulsey slugged a two-run homer and starting pitcher Malorie Watson pitched five shutout innings in a 8-0 (five innings).

Hulsey's two hits and two RBIs led the Golden Tigers, while junior Allie Busbee and sophomore Peyton Hawkins each added two RBIs. 

Watson mowed down the Knights offense by scattering four hits while striking out five en route to her third win of the season. 

St. Andrews (2-12 overall, 0-4 AAC) starter Jalin Joss allowed seven earned runs to take the loss. 

In the second game of the afternoon, the Brenau bats continued their success by pounding out eighteen hits in a 16-5 rout of the host Knights.

Sophomores Breanne Brookshire and Ava Moon and junior Allie McGee each notched three hits, while Hulsey continued her stellar afternoon with two hits and two RBIs. Dayton Power and Riley Smith also added two hits each in the win.

Brenau (6-0 overall, 2-0 AAC) returns home to face non-conference Wesleyan (Ga.) College (0-6 overall) on Friday for a 3 pm doubleheader at Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Park.
