Softball Wins Three in AAC Road Trip

Gainesville, Georgia-  The Brenau softball team won three of four games in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheaders against Columbia (SC) College and Columbia (SC) International University this weekend.

Against Columbia, the Golden Tigers rolled in the opening game 11-2 in six innings, but slumped in the second game with a 4-2 loss.

In the opener versus the host Koalas, sophomore Payton Hawkins went a perfect 4-4 with a whopping 6 RBIs, while fellow sophomore Dayton Power went 3-4 with 2 stolen bases to help their squad roll to victory. Fellow sophomore Ava Moon also went 2-3 with 2 RBIs.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Brenau struggled to generate offense and managed a season low 5 hits in a 4-2 loss.

Against CIU, junior Allie Busbee hit her first home run and went 2-3 with 3 RBIs to help propel the Golden Tigers to a 5-4 victory.

Junior Charlotte Smith added two hits in the win as the Golden Tigers held off a furious late rally from the host Rams.

The second game of the doubleheader proved to also be a nailbiter as the Rams scored six runs in the final two innings, but came up just short in a 12-11 win for the Golden Tigers.

Power continued her stellar season with a 3-4 performance and junior Riley Smith added two more RBIs in the victory.

Brenau (18-5 overall overall, 7-1 AAC) next hosts Tennessee Wesleyan (7-4 overall, 5-3 AAC) on Thursday for an AAC doubleheader at 3:00 pm at Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Park.
