Softball Rolls Past Union Commonwealth in an AAC Doubleheader

Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team continued its strong conference play with a sweep over Union Commonwealth (Ky) College 11-10 and 8-3 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader on Friday.

The Brenau offense slugged out 15 hits in the opening game of the day to edge past the visiting Bulldogs 11-10. Sophomore Ava Moon led the team with a 3-4 performance with 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases, while junior Whitney Hulsey added two hits and 4 RBIs. Sophomore Allie McGee added 2 RBIs and sophomore Breanne Brookshire and junior Riley Smith each drove in runs in the win.

In the second game of the afternoon, starting pitcher Emily Hall threw a complete game, allowing only two runs and the Brenau offense continued to run on all cylinders in an 8-3 win.

Junior Allie Busbee led the charge with three hits and 2 RBIs, while Brookshire continued her solid day by also adding 2 RBIs. Junior Charlotte Smith also added 2 RBIs in the win.

The two victories  keep the Golden Tigers firmly in second place in the AAC softball standings as the squad holds a two game lead over Reinhardt (Ga.).

Brenau (24-7 overall, 13-3 AAC) next hits the road to take on Montreat (NC) College (21-11 overall, 9-5 AAC) in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
