SWU Dominates Brenau in Overtime

The Golden Tigers came up just short in another nail biter against conference opponent Southern Wesleyan University, SC. Going into overtime after a hard fought regulation, the score was 86-89 in SWU's favor. Brenau (9-13; SSAC 3-9) stayed with the Warriors (8-13; SSAC 5-8) the entire game with the score back and forth for the entire regulation period. However, inconsistent shooting at 39%, 32 turnovers and getting out-rebounded 47-52 proved difficult for the Tigers to overcome.

Leading all scorers was SWU's Ashley Cooper with 29 points and 15 rebounds, along with Janaye Gillard with 21 points and 10 boards. Brenau was led by 5 players in double figures. Nikki Reed turned in another double-double performance with 18 points on 50% shooting and 10 rebounds, along with Raven Crawford's double-double of 10 points and a team high 13 boards. Tala Black put up 16 points; Brittney Wiley connected for 15 points and 4 assists, and Tatiana Khudiakova chipped in 15 points and 3 blocked shots.

Brenau Head Coach Kris Stewart said of the game: "This was a tough loss in a hard fought battle, and I am proud of our team's effort. We are showing great strides and certainly have the capabilities to win these close games. As frustrating as it is to come up just short as we have in the last few games, I am confident that we can build on this to improve."

Brenau's next matchup will be this Thursday at home against Brewton-Parker. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
