The Brenau basketball team used hot shooting to hold off SSAC foe Brewton Parker (Ga.) College 69-57 in Mount Vernon on Thursday.
In the first half, the Golden Tigers came out on fire, using a balanced attack to get out in front of the Barons. Junior guard Kalin Williams (JR/Palmetto, Ga.) led the early attack with six quick points, while sophomore Carly Kluttz (SO/Gastonia, NC) nailed back-to-back three pointers to help extend the lead. A driving layup by Maegan Kenimer (SO/Gainesville, Ga.) extended the lead to 13 with 3:41 in the first half, but the Barons finished on a 9-0 run to close the gap to 31-26 at the intermission.
After the break, Brenau continued to shoot well as Claire Zimmerman (JR/Woodstock, Ga.) and Briah Woods (SO/Acworth, Ga.) combined for 22 points in the second half to help secure the win.
"This was a good road win for our team," said head coach Kris Stewart. "Brewton Parker is really athletic and hung around all game. Our bench really played well for us, combining for 35 points. Once again, it was a great team effort."
