The Brenau basketball team notched its 15th victory of the season on Saturday with a 64-45 win over Southern States Athletic Conference rival Middle Georgia College in Gainesville.
The Golden Tigers also celebrated Senior Day in fine fashion as senior Kalin Williams scored the 1,000th point of her career in the third quarter. She is the seventh player to score 1,000 points in the program's history, joining former Golden Tigers Brittany Wiley, Ashley Hagans, Paige Cooper, Sarah Ledford, Vicky Wilson and Nikki Reed.
After a sluggish first half that saw the Golden Tigers take a 26-22 lead into the break, Williams found Autumn Dodson in the deep corner for a three pointer that started the Brenau run.
Senior Claire Zimmerman added two free throws in the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 16, while fellow senior Myka Lightfoot nailed a short jumper in the waning seconds to give Brenau its largest lead- 21 points.
"I cannot say enough about how much this senior class has meant for our program," said head coach Kris Stewart. "They are outstanding students and players who have helped lead us to a very good year. I am proud of Kalin (Williams) for scoring her 1,000th point as well. Accomplishing that in only three years is an impressive feat and it speaks to her talent and effort."
"It is always nice to win on Senior Day and I hope this helps us keep momentum going into the tournament."
The Golden Tigers shot 40% (24-60) from the floor while the Knights only hit on 18% (16-91) of their shots on the afternoon.
