
Basketball Team Members Receive AAC Honors
Several members of the Brenau basketball team were honored at the 2018 Appalachian Athletic Conference banquet in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Senior Jasmine Knight was recognized by the conference coaches as the 2018 AAC Defensive Player of the Year. The Tennille, Georgia native was first in rebounding in the AAC (9.07), second in steals per game (2.79), second in total steals (81), second in assists per game (4.52), second in assist to turnover ratio (2.05) and third in double-doubles (6). She also set the single-game standard in rebounding with 19 against Milligan College. Knight was also named as an AAC All-Conference Second-Team performer.
Fellow senior Autumn Dodson capped off a stellar career with AAC All-Conference First-Team honors. The Jefferson City, Tennessee guard was the AAC's third leading scorer (15.8 points per game), ranked first in three pointers made per game (3.35), second in total three pointers made (97) and fourth in three point shooting percentage (39%).
Freshman Ashanti Brown was also honored as a member of the 2017-18 AAC All-Freshman team. The post player averaged 8.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in her inaugural season.
Sophomore guard Jamie Bunting was named as the Brenau Champions of Character team member. Honorees are best representatives of the NAIA's Five Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.
Bunting and Dodson also joined five other Golden Tigers as AAC All-Academic honorees for the Golden Tigers. Other members include sophomores Carmen Garcia-Pitarch Lopez and Madison Zaferatos, juniors Jalyn Brown and Madison Phillips, and senior Sydney Haas. Team members must maintain at least a 3.25 GPA and achieved sophomore or higher class status.
