
Balanced Offensive Attack Propels Basketball Past Allen 70-53
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team had four players in double figures in a 70-53 victory over Allen University in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
In the first half, the Golden Tigers outscored the visiting Yellow Jackets 43-22, including shooting a blistering 50% (9-18) from the floor in the first quarter. Brenau held the lead throughout the third quarter as Allen never cut the deficit to under 18 points in the period.
At the 6:35 mark in the fourth quarter, senior Lia Thomas scored on back to back possessions to give her team a 63-37 lead-the team's largest in the game. The Yellow Jackets scored three consecutive baskets with under 40 seconds left in the game to cut the deficit to 17 points.
"We played with good energy and discipline today," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We shot well, moved the ball well and rebounded well. Everyone contributed to this win and I am very proud of how hard my team played today."
Thomas led all scorers with 15 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and six steals, while Celine Vega added a career-high 14 points, including shooting 3-4 from three point range. Dyiesha Brown added 13 points, six rebounds and four blocks and Ashanti Brown posted 10 points and five rebounds.
Jayda Jackson led Allen with 14 points.
Brenau next travels to Bluefield College on Tuesday for a 5:30 pm eastern Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup.
