Point Edges Past Basketball 61-56 in AAC Competition

Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team came up just short in a 61-56 loss to Point (Ga.) University in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Tuesday.

The visiting Skyhawks used early full court pressure to jump out to an early 11-7 lead and held the lead throughout the first quarter to a 19-12 advantage at the end of the period.

In the second quarter, the Golden Tigers responded as freshman Nyla Moore scored on a fast break and then senior Hanna Grogan nailed back to back three pointers to give the home team a 20-19 lead. The teams battled back and forth throughout the quarter until senior Tyleia Williams made two free throws just before intermission to give the home team a 33-32 lead.

After intermission, Point again used their defensive pressure to outscore Brenau 18-9 in the third period for a 50-42 advantage.

With 1:08 remaining, in the fourth quarter, Brenau cut the Point lead to 58-54 on a three point play by junior Tamia Francis, but Point answered with a bucket on the ensuing possession to extend its lead to six and escape with the win.
