Golden Tigers Basketball Players Receive AAC Honors

Kingsport, Tennessee- The Appalachian Athletic Conference honored three members of the Brenau basketball team for their play during the 2020-21 season.

Junior Tyleia Williams received First-Team All-Conference recognition for her outstanding season as she led the Golden Tigers in scoring at 15.9 points per game and added 6.3 rebounds per game. The Macon, Ga. native was ranked among conference leaders in scoring (5th), field goal percentage (10th), free throw percentage (13th), steals (18th) and double- doubles (14th). She also was tops in the conference in stellar points in a game with a conference best 41 points against Milligan College. The 41 points is also a Brenau record, eclipsing the previous record of 38 points set by Brenau Hall of Famer Ashley Hagans in 2008.

Fellow junior Tamia Francis also garnered Second-Team All-Conference honors as the Snellville, Ga. native averaged 12.1 points and 7.1 rebounds for the Golden Tigers. Francis ranked 20th in scoring, 8th in field goal percentage and 12th in rebounding among conference members. She also posted three double-doubles this season, which was tenth-best in the AAC.

Additionally, senior Tatyiana McClendon was selected as a 2020-21 AAC All-Defensive team member. The Dallas, Ga. native had a strong senior campaign by averaging 8.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. McClendon was ranked 4th in the AAC in offensive rebounds per game (2.94) and 13th in total rebounds per game. McClendon is the first All-Defensive team selection since Jasmine Knight (2016-18) was named AAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2018.

"I am very proud of all three of our honorees for their play this season," said head coach Kris Stewart. "Each was very deserving and were among the very best in the AAC this year."
