Basketball Fades Late in 59-46 Loss to Reinhardt

Waleska, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team pushed Reinhardt (Ga.) University for four quarters but faded late in the fourth quarter 59-46 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Wednesday.

In the first quarter, the Golden Tigers stormed out to a 17-11 lead as sophomore Nyla Moore scored eight points and the team shot 50% from the floor.

The host Eagles answered with a 15-7 second quarter as the Brenau offense struggled to shoot, going 3-15 in the period. The run allowed Reinhardt to take a 26-24 lead into intermission.

After halftime, both teams traded baskets throughout the period as the Golden Tigers held a 56% to 53% shooting advantage. However, Reinhardt closed the quarter on an 8-4 run to hold an eight point lead going into the final stanza.

In the fourth quarter, the Brenau defense kept the game to under ten points until the final three minutes, but the offense failed to answer the call by shooting a woeful 18% in the period to allow Reinhardt to escape with the win.

Junior Katherine Fourie led all scorers with 16 points, while Moore added nine points.

Catherine Shope led Reinhart with 13 points.

Brenau (5-17 overall, 4-17 AAC) next hosts Reinhardt (Ga.) in a rare back-to-back Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday at 4:30 pm.
