
Basketball Uses Balanced Attack to Defeat Reinhardt 74-63
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team used a balanced team effort to defeat Reinhardt (Ga.) University 74-63 Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday.
With both teams battling to a 20-20 stalemate in the first quarter, the Golden Tigers closed the second quarter with a 10-4 run, capped by a Tivona Myles layup at the buzzer to take a 41-36 lead into intermission.
In the third quarter, the host Eagles closed the gap as Noelle Lavery scored seven points in the period. However, Brenau sophomore Kristina Peach answered the Eagle's run with 10 points in the quarter, including two three-pointers, to keep her team ahead.
In the final stanza, the Eagles kept the score close until freshman Aiyanna Peavy nailed a deep three pointer to extend the Brenau lead to 63-57.Over the final eight minutes, the Golden Tigers made clutch baskets and sophomore point guard S.G. Bertolini went a perfect 4-4 from the line to secure the victory.
Peach led all scorers with a career-high 21 points on 8-13 shooting, while senior post Kayla Stafford notched her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Anna Gliatta added 12 points and four assists, while Myles posted 9 points and 6 rebounds.
Na'Yell Camper led Reinhardt (3-1 overall, 0-1 AAC) with 15 points.
Brenau (1-3 overall, 1-1 AAC) next travels to the Agnes Scott Tip-Off Classic to take on Hollins (Va.) University on Friday at 6:00 pm.
