Strong 2nd quarter from Gliatta propels Brenau to a key AAC win

Columbia, South Carolina- The Brenau basketball team gets back on track in a comfortable win in AAC play against Columbia International (CIU) (1-20 overall, and 1-17 AAC).

The game was a competitive contest throughout the first quarter as both teams battled to a 15-14 score at the end of period. The Brenau offense came alive in the second quarter with a huge contribution from guard Anna Gliatta. Gliatta went 4-6 from three in the second and it gave the Golden Tigers the spark they needed to go up 10 at the break.

In the second half, Brenau continued to put their foot on the gas with a huge all-around performance from SG Bertolini. She finished the day with nine points eight rebounds seven assists and five steals.

Kayla Stafford, added to her AAC defensive player of the year resume with another strong performance. Stafford finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.

Coach Simpson had this to say after the conference win. "I am so proud of the all-around effort from the team. Everyone single person contributed in a positive way to this must have win. We are looking forward to carrying this over into Wednesday's game."

Irene Were led the Rams with 20 points and 13 rebounds in the losing effort.

Brenau (6-16 overall, 5-12 AAC) looks to continue climbing up the AAC standings when they host St. Andrews (NC) (10-16 overall, 6-12 AAC) on Wednesday. Tip-off is at 5:30 pm eastern.
