
Stone and Pikeville too much for Brenau. Stafford breaks single game rebound record.
Gainesville, Georgia - The Golden Tigers made a valiant comeback after falling behind by 16 going in to the fourth quarter but ultimately fall in AAC play against Pikeville (KY) (16-7 overall, and 15-4 AAC).
The game was a defensive struggle throughout the first half as Brenau was able to hold Allie Stone the leader in ppg. in AAC play to 3-10 shooting in the first half. SG Bertolini defensive performance in the first half was key to Brenau keeping things close and going to the half down one (21-20). In the 3rd quarter after Bertolini picked up her fourth foul and the Golden Tigers were unable to contain Stone as she went for 16 points on 5-6 shooting. Stone finished the day with a season high 33 points and an impressive 13-13 from the line.
Brenau started to shoot the ball better from the 3-point line as they made 50% of their threes in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for the Golden Tigers it was too little too late as they never cut the UPike led to more than the final margin of eight.
Kayla Stafford, added to her AAC defensive player of the year resume with a record-breaking performance on the glass. Stafford finished with 6 points, 26 rebounds and two blocks. With the 26 rebounds today, Stafford broke the single game school record. Anna Gliatta found her stroke late in the game and finished with 21 points in the losing effort.
Along with Stone, Rachel Bush led the Bears with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
Brenau (7-17 overall, 6-13 AAC) has a quick turnaround as they travel to Johnson (TN) (21-4 overall, 16-3 AAC) on Monday. Tip-off is at 5:00 pm eastern.
