Basketball Cruises Past Kentucky Christian 70-57
Greyson, Kentucky- The Brenau basketball team started the new year with a 70-57 win over Kentucky Christian University on Saturday.
The Golden Tiger offense started fast as the squad outscored the host Crusaders 20-12 to start the game. The shotmaking continued into the second quarter and the Brenau defense matched the offense to hold Kentucky Christian to only nine points in the period. Junior Emelia Askew provided the spark by scoring eight points off the bench, while fellow junior Ellie Kinlaw added five points to extend the lead to 40-21 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Crusaders outscored the Golden Tigers 20-15, but a transition layup by senior Isabella Evangelista stopped the home team’s momentum to keep the lead at 14 points.
Brenau continued to match Kentucky Christian throughout the fourth quarter and was never threatened. Freshman Gabrielle Grant scored all five of her points and added three rebounds in the quarter to help her team earn the victory.
Junior Anna Gliatta led a balanced attack with 12 points, while Askew and junior Kristina Peach each added 10 points. Kinlaw chipped in with 9 points and senior post Kayla Stafford added 8 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.
