
Soccer Rolls Past Milligan 3-1 in AAC Competition
Gainesville, GA- The Brenau soccer team used a strong offensive attack and a solid defensive effort to defeat Milligan (Tenn.) University 3-1 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) soccer match on Wednesday.
The Golden Tigers continued a theme of the season with another early first half goal as freshman Hannah Listwin found senior Camila Penagos, who beat Milligan keeper Lauren Davies for a 1-0 lead.
In the 53rd minute, Penagos notched her third assist of the season as she set up senior Cindy Bonilla for a 2-0 advantage.
After Milligan's Kelsey Miller scored in the 69th minute, Brenau answered with an insurance goal as senior Itzel Rivera scored unassisted in the 85th minute to help seal the victory.
Junior goalkeeper Jordan Smith saved six shots on goal and the Golden Tigers posted a slight 11-10 advantage in shots over the visitors..
Bonilla, who continues her torrid scoring pace this season, sits in second place in both goals scored (11) and points (25) in the AAC. Listwin's assist propelled her to a tie for the conference lead (5) in assists and is first among conference freshmen.
The victory keeps the Golden Tigers near the top of the AAC standings as the squad prepares for the second half of the conference slate.
Brenau (7-2 overall, 5-1 AAC) continues the second of three home matches as the squad takes on Union (Ky.) College (1-8 overall, 1-5 AAC) at Allen Creek Soccer Complex on Saturday at 6 pm eastern.
