
Soccer Defeats Johnson 2-1 in AAC Play
Gainesville, Georgia- A second-half goal by freshman Sarah Clark and a solid defensive effort propelled the Brenau soccer team past Johnson (Tenn.) University 2-1 in a critical Appalachian Athletic Conference match on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers struck first when in the 24th minute freshman Rylie Acker found senior Camila Penagos for her seventh goal of the season to give her squad an early 1-0 lead.
The host Royals responded in the 32nd minute as Alexea Jones beat Golden Tigers’ keeper Jordan Smith for the equalizer.
The game stayed tied until the 58th minute when freshman Sarah Clark ripped her team-high 10th goal of the season for the golden goal.
Brenau goalkeeper Jordan Smith saved four goals to earn the win, while Brenau outshot Johnson 23-11 in the match.
Clark, who leads the Golden Tigers in goals, sits tied for fifth in the conference in goals (9), while Penagos is tied for twelfth (6).
Brenau (8-6 overall, 6-6 AAC) continues Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Wednesday when the Golden Tigers travel to take on Bryan (Tenn.) (6-8-1 overall 5-6-1 AAC) for a 5:00 pm matchup.
