Brenau Swimmers Turn In Season Bests at SCAD

Savannah, Ga - The Brenau swim team competed in the SCAD Invitational this weekend and turned in their best performances of the season, breaking numerous personal and season bests. Freshman phenom Lisa Portwood (Marietta) pulled off all personal best times in the four events in which she competed. She placed 6th in the 500 free with a time of 5:17.95, had ninth place finishes in the 200 IM (2:17.72) and the 400 IM (4:48.01) and finished 10th in the 200 free (1:59.53). All her times are also NAIA National Qualifying standards.
Teammate Julia Ferreira, a junior from Brazil, also recorded personal best times in her two events, the 400 IM (15th place/5:06.97) and the 100 Breaststroke (11th place.1:13.18). Her time in the 400 is also a national qualifying time. Melissa Bofto also had a personal best while finishing 11th in the 200 Breast (2:38.30). Her 400 IM time of 5:05.03 also qualifies her for the NAIA Nationals.
Junior Ana Galesic (Croatia) broke out in her events with personal bests and national qualifying times, finishing in 10th place in the 100 back (1:04.46) and the 200 back (2:20.23). Personal bests were also turned in by Brianne Russ in the 50 free (27.7), 100 back (1:08.7) and 200 back (2:30.19). Monica Souther had her best performances in the 100 back (1:14) and 200 back (2:39.35) and Laura Hirst had her best swim of the year in the 100 free (1:10.3).
"Wow is the word that comes to mind!", said Coach Blaire Bachman. "I am so excited to see our team break this many season and personal best times at this invitational. They dug deep, found the desire to compete and their performances individually and as a team speak to the hard work they have put into each and every practice throughout this semester."
