Tennis Comes Up Short Against LSU-Alexandria
The Brenau tennis team competed well but fell short in a non-conference matchup against #13 LSU-Alexandria 5-1 on Sunday in Gainesville.
In doubles play, the #2 team of Maya Mammetgulyyeva and Kirsten Dickins opened the match with an 8-3 victory. However, the #1 team of Patricia Recalde Pacua and Paula Rives Palau were narrowly defeated 9-7 and the Golden Tigers forfeited number three doubles to take a 3-1 disadvantage into singles play.
In singles play, LSC-Alexandria swept wins at #4, #5 and #6 to clinch the match.
"Our #2 doubles played a good match from start to finish and gave us a big point today," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "#1 doubles turned into a long battle and we found ourselves in a big hole multiple times but Paula and Patricia have been so solid this year they kept digging. They had to adjust to the opponent's style of play and found a way to come back and tie the match at 7-7. Credit goes to LSUA for playing solid in the last two games to win the match 9-7."
The squad continues their rigorous schedule as the team travels to Lawrenceville, Ga. to take on #1 ranked Georgia Gwinnett College on Wednesday at 3 pm eastern.
