Golden Tigers Show Well at Suwanee Indoor Track and Field Invitational

Sewanee, Tennessee-The Golden Tigers indoor track and field team hit the track at the Tiger Indoor Open, hosted by Sewanee: The University of the South, this past weekend.

The squad earned four first-place finishes and a number of other strong performances to show well at the event. 

Sophomore Averie Akin topped the competition with a win in the 3,000 meter run. Akin won the event by over 11 seconds with a time of 11:21.51. 

Kamryn Chambliss had a strong day at the event by earning the 200 meter dash title. The District Heights, Md. junior edged past Clayton State's Payton Knowles by .02 seconds to win the event.

Kamille Dixon also showed well with a first place finish in the mile run with a time of 5.32. Teammate Averie Akin claimed sixth place in 5:40, while Madi McMahon and Paloma Resendiz-Perez placed 16th and 17th respectively. Dixon also earned a 4th place finish in the 800 meter run in 2:30.87.

Freshman Madison Kitson also continued to impress by winning the triple jump and outpacing the field with a leap of 11.35 meters. Teammates Taylor Knox and Jasmine Johnson also showed well with seventh and eighth place finishes in the event respectively. Kitson also took top honors in the long jump with a mark of 5.16 meters.

Gladys Blanco-Choque: 6th place, 3,000 meters, 13:56.43; 

Jennaya Coucoulus: 8th place, 55 meter hurdles, 10.29; 10th place, long jump, 4.65 m; 

Tatyana Denis: 4th place, high jump, 1.45m; 

Mikhailah Hayes: 8th place, 400 meters, 1:08.22;

Kyla Laurent: 8th place, 200 meters, 28.38.

Kendra Martin: 2nd place, 55 meter dash, 7.41; 

Madi McMahan: 23rd place, 800 meters, 2:51.21; 

Re'yanna Ellis-Pickett: 5th place, 400 meters, 1:08.22;

Jasmine Ramsey: 10th place, shot put, 10.13m; 18th place finish, weight throw, 10.29m;

Victoria Woods: 20th place, 800 meters, 2:46.21;
