Volleyball Sweeps St. Andrews 3-0 in AAC Play

Montreat, North Carolina- The Brenau volleyball team started fast, but faded late in a 3-2 loss (25-21, 23-25, 25-14, 21-25, 15-12) to Montreat (NC) College in the season-opening match of Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Thursday.

After winning the first two sets, the Golden Tigers struggled to closeout the match as the host Cavaliers won the final three sets to steal the victory. Brenau outhit the Cavaliers in the first two matches but struggled to find points down the stretch and was outhit .227-.179 in total. 

Freshman Hannah Messer posted a career-high 20 kills to lead the squad, while senior right-side hitter Malone Davis added 10 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Jomaris Maldonado also chipped in 8 kills and 11 digs. 

Defensively, junior Dallas Morse led Brenau with 20 digs, while setter Nathalia Quintero had 36 assists. 

Kamryn Wolfe led Montreat with 20 kills. 

Brenau (2-3 overall, 0-1 AAC) next hosts St. Andrews (NC) University (0-6 overall, 0-0 AAC) on Saturday at 11 am at the Schrader Athletic Center in Gainesville.
