Cross Country Opens Season at Young Harris
Young Harris, GA-The Brenau cross country team opened their 2009 season today with a second place finish at the Young Harris Invitational. Redshirt freshman Lilian Korir turned in the best time with a 22:55 clocking, good enough for sixth place overall. Right behind her was junior Audra Cochran in seventh place at 23:08. The next three finishers for the Tigers were sophomore Maria Gonzalez (23:46, 11th), Regina Ogechi (23:51, 12th) and Kelly Young (24:00, 13th). Also competing today were Shkurte Ejupi (24:16, 15th), Ashley McCoy (24:31, 18th) and Fatima Talavera (30:11). The course was a difficult one with lots of hills, and the winning time was posted by a Young Harris runner at 21:14. Team standings were Young Harris, Brenau, Oglethorpe and Gordon. Coach McIntyre was pleased with the showing, emphasizing that the runners finished in a pack, which is encouraging for the upcoming season. It was the best start to a cross country season in recent memory.
