Brenau Runners Volunteer at Girls on the Run
Suwanee, GA- The Brenau cross country team stepped in to fill a need with Forsyth County Girls on the Run Sunday and took care of the timing of the 5K race held at Lambert High School. In the mission statement for GOTR they prepare girls from 3rd to 8th grade for a lifetime of respect and healthy living through a 12-week program of two-one hour sessions per week of training to complete a 5K run.Their goal is to harness the power of running to develop self-esteem and a lifelong committment to nutrition, exercise, teamwork and community service. Audra Cochran actually ended up running with a girl who was slightly challenged and unsure of herself and Kelly Young and Monica Muchene stationed themselves at the one and two mile marks to encourage the runners. Maria Gonzalez was at the turnaround point to direct the girls and cheer them on and Fatima Talavera and Brianne Russ ran the course to mix and mingle with the girls. Coach Susan McIntyre, Shkurte Ejupi, Ashley McCoy and Regina Ogechi did the timing of the event and tallied the results. "It was a beautiful day and our runners were amazing with the girls," said Coach McIntyre.
