Brenau Cross Country Wins the Truett McConnell Invitational
The course had some extreme conditions that only Tigers could tame, including the now famous "Goat Hill". The Tigers took first place among six teams including SCAD-Atlanta, Southern Wesleyan University, Truett McConnell College, Spelman College, and Wesleyan College.
Sophomore, Brittany Aikens from Braselton, Ga., continues to lead the way for the Tigers and finished second behind Kamila Nemcova from Spelman College. Aikens was tripped up and fell to the ground at the beginning of the race, but jumped up and moved back up to her position in the front of the race. Nothing can hold Aikens back; she's one tough runner.
Ashley Tolland (Cumming,Ga.) and Sarah Saenz (Lawrenceville, Ga.) had a great race in front of their family spectators. Tolland, Saenz, and Alyssa Sale (Cumming, Ga.) ran together for the whole race pushing and pulling each other. They finished 6th, 8th and 9th to put the Tigers ahead in points. Freshman, Jasmine Ray (Appling, Ga.) ran her first college race today and confirmed the Tigers win by placing 20th in the race.
The Tigers accumulated 45 points with their first five finishers, 13 points ahead of SCAD- Atlanta. Last week SCAD-Atlanta beat Brenau by 13 points. Southern Wesleyan University (64 points) and Truett McConnel (85 points), both Brenau SSAC Rivals finished in third and fourth place. Coach McIntyre quoted "It's all the hills we run that brought us todays win."
Next week the Tigers will travel to Central, S.C. to take part in the Southern Wesleyan University Warrior Invitational. We hope to see a few more teams from our conference in attendance.
