Cross Country Promotes Champions of Character Initiative

As part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character program, the Brenau cross country team spent an afternoon with an area high school cross country team discussing the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.

The entire cross country team traveled to White County (Ga.) High School to spend the afternoon with both the boys and girls teams. The squad divided into groups of five to help share their thoughts on the five core values and how to make good choices in all aspects of life and reflect the true spirit of competition.

"The cross country team has done a lot in regards to the Champions of Character components," said Brenau Champions of Character liaison and head tennis coach Andre Ferreira. "They are always leading initiatives and playing a very active role in the community. This particular initiative serves as a great example of how our teams can connect with younger student-athletes in the area while sharing the Champions of Character message at the same time. It's a win-win: target audience and meaningful topic."

As part of the Champions of Character Initiative, Brenau University was named as a 2013-2014 NAIA Five-Star Institution for the athletics department's commitment to the core values through leadership, community service and good sportsmanship.
